Upper Body & Secondary Breast Lift
My Approach
Massive weight loss transforms health — but often leaves behind loose skin, distorted contours, and prior surgical issues that require thoughtful reconstruction rather than simple tightening. This 62-year-old patient had lost over 100 pounds and previously underwent silicone breast implants with a lift performed elsewhere, resulting in poor shape, asymmetry, and dissatisfaction. In addition, she had significant excess skin of the arms, axilla, back, and upper abdomen. Complex revision body contouring with breast lift cases like this demand strategy, not shortcuts. A key challenge was her request to avoid a vertical abdominal incision above the belly button. This required customized planning and creative execution to achieve tightening and lift while respecting her preferences. Rather than relying on implants or artificial volume, we reshaped and repositioned her existing tissues to create soft, natural, long-lasting contours. In complex body contouring, training and technical skill must merge with experience, judgment, and artistry. When each element is carefully planned, the result looks harmonious — not surgical. At less than one year, scars continue to mature and will fade significantly over time.

The Healing Process
Recovery after staged upper body contouring is gradual but very manageable with proper planning. During the first 2–3 weeks, swelling, tightness, and fatigue are common. Compression garments help support the tissues and reduce inflammation. Drains may be used temporarily depending on the extent of surgery. Most patients return to light daily activities within 2 weeks and resume normal routines by 3–4 weeks. Arm mobility improves progressively after brachioplasty, and gentle walking is encouraged early to promote circulation. Swelling steadily improves over 6–8 weeks. Final contour refinement and scar maturation continue for up to one year. Scars initially appear pink or firm and gradually soften and fade. Because the reconstruction relies on the patient’s own tissue rather than implants, results feel natural and age gracefully, providing long-lasting definition, smoother contours, and improved comfort with clothing and daily movement.
FAQs
An upper body lift addresses excess skin and laxity of the arms, axilla, back, and upper torso. It tightens and reshapes the entire region for smoother, more youthful contours after weight loss or aging.
In some patients, implants contribute to poor shape, heaviness, or unnatural results. Using the patient’s own tissue can create a softer, more natural look while avoiding future implant-related complications.
Yes. Native breast tissue can often be lifted, repositioned, and reshaped to restore volume and projection naturally without adding foreign materials.
A reverse tummy tuck removes loose skin from the upper abdomen by lifting tissue upward toward the breast crease. It’s especially useful when tightening the upper torso without creating vertical abdominal scars.
Most patients return to light activity within 2–3 weeks and normal daily routines within a month. Full healing and contour settling occur over several months.
Yes. Complex reconstructions are often staged to reduce surgical time, improve safety, and allow better healing between procedures, ultimately leading to more predictable outcomes.
