My Approach

This patient is seen six months after upper eyelid surgery combined with a conservative facelift. The goal was simple: help him look refreshed and energized without looking different or “operated on.” Facial surgery in men requires a completely different strategy than in women. Masculine anatomy, skin thickness, brow position, hairline, and beard patterns must all be respected. Performing the same techniques used for female facelifts on male patients often leads to feminized features, over-tightened skin, elevated brows, or an unnatural “windblown” look. Unfortunately, this is why some men appear strange or artificial after surgery. The problem is not surgery itself, but aggressive or cookie-cutter techniques that ignore artistry and male facial proportions. For this patient, the eyelid surgery was conservative and precise. Only excess skin was removed to reduce heaviness and restore a clear, open look. The natural eye shape was preserved, avoiding rounding or hollowing. The brows were left in their natural masculine position rather than lifted into a surprised appearance. The facelift focused on repositioning deeper tissues rather than pulling the skin tight. This allows improvement in jawline definition and neck contour while keeping the result soft and natural. Incisions were carefully hidden around the hairline and ear so that scars are minimal and the hair, ear, and beard patterns remain undisturbed. At six months, he simply looks well-rested and younger, not surgically altered. Friends and family notice that he looks better, but cannot identify why. That is always the goal.

The Healing Process

Recovery is typically straightforward. Most swelling and bruising resolve within the first week. Patients often return to light activities within seven days and resume normal routines in about ten days. Residual swelling continues to refine over several weeks, with final results becoming more apparent over three to six months. Scars soften and fade gradually over time. During this period, it is important to follow postoperative instructions, maintain proper hydration, and avoid strenuous exercise. Sun protection and gentle scar care help ensure optimal healing and minimize discoloration. Regular follow-up appointments allow your surgeon to monitor progress and address any concerns.

FAQs

Yes. Male faces have different proportions, brow positions, skin thickness, and hair patterns. Techniques must be modified to preserve masculine features and avoid a feminized or overdone appearance.

Upper blepharoplasty removes excess skin and heaviness from the lids, improving vision and creating a more alert, rested look without changing natural eye shape.

A natural result comes from repositioning deeper tissues instead of tightening the skin. This restores structure and definition while avoiding a pulled or windblown look.

Incisions are placed discreetly around the ears and hairline. Once healed, scars are typically very difficult to see.

Most men feel comfortable returning to daily activities within one week and resume full routines around ten days, with continued improvement over the following months.

The goal is for others to notice you look refreshed and younger, not that you had a procedure. Subtlety is key to successful male facial rejuvenation.
